Bernard LaFayette, voting rights organizer, dies at 85

Bernard LaFayette, a key figure in the civil rights movement and the architect of the voter registration campaign in Selma, Alabama, has passed away at the age of 85 from a heart attack. LaFayette’s work helped lay the groundwork for the Voting Rights Act of 1965, following the violent events of “Bloody Sunday.” He was instrumental in organizing nonviolent protests and voter registration efforts, significantly contributing to the fight for civil rights in the United States.
