A significant blackout affected western Cuba on Wednesday, cutting power to millions as the country faces fuel shortages due to U.S. sanctions. The U.S. Embassy reported a complete power outage from Camagüey to Pinar del Río, including Havana, caused by an unexpected shutdown of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant. Cuba’s energy minister indicated that restoration might take at least three days, while some areas remain operational thanks to solar panels and backup generators. The situation has worsened since January, following the disruption of oil imports from Venezuela.
