Applications to Canada’s armed forces increased by 12.9% in eight months

Applications to join the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have surged by 13% over the past eight months, driven by global uncertainty, as stated by Minister of National Defence David McGuinty. The Department of National Defence confirmed that applications for the regular force rose approximately 12.9% compared to the previous fiscal year. Despite this increase, the CAF is still short of its goal of 71,500 regular force members, with only 65,677 currently enlisted. The government has initiated various measures, including a 20% pay increase for members and new defense strategies, to address recruitment challenges.
