Toucan rescued after months in the desert found flying in Las Vegas

A toucan named Sam, who had been living in Las Vegas since November, has been rescued by the SouthWest Exotic Avian Rescue. After months of concern for his health due to the desert environment, Sam flew into a garage where the homeowners recognized him and helped capture him. He was taken to a veterinarian for evaluation, showing signs of dehydration and wear but is expected to recover. Sam will undergo a 30 to 45-day quarantine to ensure he does not have bird flu before being placed in a permanent home.
