Violence in Mexico During Military Operation Against Cartel Leader

Violent clashes erupted in western Mexico following a military operation that resulted in the death of Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho.” In response, Jalisco’s Gov. Pablo Lemus Navarro activated a “code red,” suspending public transport and urging residents to stay indoors. The U.S. State Department issued a security alert for several Mexican states, advising citizens to shelter in place, while airlines canceled flights amid the unrest. El Mencho had previously been a high-priority target, with a reward of up to $15 million offered for information leading to his arrest.
