The United Nations announced that the United States has paid approximately $160m towards its nearly $4bn in outstanding dues, with $2.196bn owed to the regular budget. Despite US President Donald Trump’s previous criticism of the UN, he recently expressed support for funding the organization. The UN is facing a financial crisis and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of a possible collapse if dues are not paid. Trump’s establishment of a Board of Peace has raised concerns of undermining the UN’s authority.
