Thirteen-year-old Austin Appelbee has received the Australian Army Cadets Gold Commendation for his remarkable bravery in rescuing his family after they were swept out to sea near Dunsborough, Western Australia. On January 30, he swam and kayaked 4km to shore, then ran 2km to contact emergency services, ultimately aiding in the rescue of his mother and siblings who had drifted over 14km.
