FCC Denies Censorship Claims, Launches Probe into The View

Brendan Carr, chair of the FCC, confirmed an investigation into ABC’s daytime talk show The View for potentially violating a new interpretation of the “equal time” rule regarding a segment featuring Texas state Representative James Talarico. This probe follows the FCC’s recent guidance, which reclassifies daytime talk shows as “entertainment programs,” thus limiting their exemption from equal time requirements. The controversy also extends to Stephen Colbert’s show, where he claimed censorship over Talarico’s interview, which was ultimately posted on YouTube instead. Carr stated that compliance with the equal time rule could have allowed the interview to air on television.
