The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by Tarique Rahman has secured a two-thirds majority in the recent elections, winning 209 of 297 announced seats, following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the main opposition with 68 seats, while the National Citizen Party (NCP) won six. The elections, marked by a 59.88% voter turnout, were deemed credible despite allegations of irregularities.
