In Thailand’s general elections, the ruling Bhumjaithai Party, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnviraku, has taken an early lead with about 30% of polling stations reporting, surpassing the progressive People’s Party and the populist Pheu Thai Party. People’s Party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut conceded defeat, acknowledging Bhumjaithai’s position. The elections also included a referendum on replacing the military-backed 2017 constitution, with early counts favoring constitutional change. A coalition government is likely, as no party is expected to achieve a clear majority.
