The Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the suspension of over 111,000 California borrowers due to suspected fraud involving nearly $9 billion in pandemic-era loan programs. SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler emphasized this action as the most significant crackdown on fraud, contrasting it with the previous administration’s inaction. The agency previously suspended 6,900 Minnesota borrowers amid similar fraud investigations, highlighting widespread abuse of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) funds. Loeffler stated that the SBA is collaborating with federal law enforcement to identify fraudsters and recover stolen funds.
