Canada and France have opened diplomatic consulates in Greenland, showing support for Denmark amidst US efforts to secure control of the Arctic island. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Canada’s Indigenous governor general, Mary Simon, inaugurated the consulate in Nuuk, aiming to enhance cooperation on climate change and Inuit rights. France’s Jean-Noel Poirier also became consul general, marking the first EU country to establish a consulate in Greenland. Trump’s push for US control of Greenland due to security concerns led to the formation of a US-Denmark-Greenland working group, with Iceland and the US having consulates in Nuuk as well.
