13-Year-Old Swims to Save Family from Ocean

A 13-year-old boy, Austin Appelbee, became a hero after swimming through rough seas to save his family, who were swept out while kayaking in Quindalup, Australia. Despite having failed a swimming test earlier that day, he swam the equivalent of two marathons over four hours to reach shore and call for help. His family was eventually rescued after spending nearly 10 hours in the water. Austin is now on crutches due to exhaustion, but all family members survived the ordeal.
