Toyota Aqua is New Zealand’s Most Stolen Car Again

The Toyota Aqua has been named Aotearoa’s most-stolen car for the fourth year in a row, accounting for 8% of all stolen vehicle insurance claims in 2025, according to AMI. In total, the insurer reported over 9,000 theft and attempted theft claims last year. Following the Aqua, the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Tiida ranked second and third, with 7% and 6% of claims, respectively. The Aqua is notably targeted, with a theft rate of 54 claims per 1,000 insured vehicles, significantly higher than the Corolla’s 15 per 1,000.
