Legislation Addresses Abuses by Syrian Government Against Kurds
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Save the Kurds Act, introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, aims to reinstate sanctions on Syrian officials due to attacks on Kurdish communities by the Sharaa regime, which has also targeted the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The act seeks to redesignate Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham as a Foreign Terrorist Organization while allowing for quick reimposition of sanctions if assaults continue. Despite a new ceasefire agreement integrating the SDF into the Syrian Arab Army, experts express concerns over potential instability and the regime’s history of violence against minorities. The act is seen as a protective measure for the Kurds, emphasizing their importance as allies against ISIS.
