The CEO of Hootsuite, a Vancouver-based tech company, is addressing backlash over its contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which includes providing social media services to ICE starting August 2024 for up to $2.8 million. A protest organized by Democracy Rising is scheduled outside Hootsuite’s headquarters, demanding the cancellation of the contract. CEO Irina Novoselsky acknowledged the public’s concerns but stated that Hootsuite’s services do not involve tracking individuals. The company previously ended a contract with ICE in 2020 due to employee backlash.
