I just finished watching the first three episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and I am frustrated by how off-base it feels from the franchise’s legacy. The show lacks the thoughtful, aspirational tone of classic Star Trek, instead resembling a shallow teen drama with poorly developed characters and weak writing. Despite the potential of exploring duty and leadership at Starfleet Academy, it presents whiny cadets and incompetent authority figures, undermining the institution’s prestige. Overall, this series fails to capture the ideals that made Star Trek meaningful, resulting in a disappointing viewing experience.
