Carole Wright, an 83-year-old grandmother, has been fined £600 for allegedly ‘fly-tipping’ a single cardboard box at a recycling drop-off in Reading, Berkshire. Despite her claims of properly disposing of the box, the council, through an enforcement contractor, threatened her with legal action after receiving a photograph of the box with her address. Her daughter, Catherine, argues that the charge is absurd and is worried about the negative impact on her mother’s health. Reading Council maintains it is open to dialogue and requests evidence for any extenuating circumstances regarding the fine.
