The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a mission to transfer ISIS detainees from northeastern Syria to Iraq, starting with 150 fighters moved from Hasakah province to secure facilities in Iraq. Up to 7,000 detainees may ultimately be transferred to ensure their secure detention and prevent potential security threats. CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper emphasized coordination with regional partners to support the defeat of ISIS. This operation aims to mitigate risks of detainee breakouts that could threaten US and regional security.
