Authorities are intervening at Auckland’s Māngere College after an Education Review Office (ERO) report revealed that less than half of the students attended classes regularly, with attendance 30 points below the Government’s 80% target. The report highlighted significant deficiencies in Year 9 and 10 students’ maths and literacy skills, with a majority performing below expectations. Additionally, fewer than a third of students passed NCEA Level 1 in 2024 or secured university entry. Recommendations for urgent improvements in leadership, teaching, and curriculum planning were made.
