Republican Senators Call for End to Visa Program for Birth Tourism
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A trio of Republican senators, Rick Scott, Jim Banks, and Markwayne Mullin, urged the Trump administration to end the Guam-CNMI visa waiver program, claiming it facilitates “birth tourism” from Chinese nationals seeking U.S. citizenship. The program allows visa-free visits for up to 14 days, and the senators argue it poses security risks by enabling potential exploitation by the Chinese government. Despite a significant decline in birth tourism since its peak in 2018, they emphasize ongoing vulnerabilities. In contrast, local representative Kimberlyn King-Hinds believes the issue is overstated and supports maintaining the program.
