AFL player Paul Curtis of North Melbourne was urgently flown from Bali to Perth for life-saving lung surgery after developing pneumonia and suffering a severe reaction to antibiotics during a flight. Following substandard treatment in London, he was diagnosed with an empyema in Bali, leading to surgery that removed a liter of pus from around his lungs. Remarkably, Curtis is expected to return to play in the season opener on March 15. He expressed gratitude for the medical staff who saved his life and reflected on the experience’s impact on his perspective on life.
