Hundreds of firefighters battled the blaze, which raised fire alerts to the second-highest level, preventing a nearby mountain from catching fire. The village, known for its makeshift homes built with highly flammable materials, remains vulnerable to fires despite previous assessments and redevelopments, with most residents having already moved out.
