French Olympic champion Agnel to face rape trial after appeal denied

Yannick Agnel, a French double Olympic swimming gold medallist, will face trial on charges of rape and sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl after his appeal was rejected. The events in question took place between December 31, 2015, and August 31, 2016, leading to Agnel being indicted in December 2021. Despite Agnel’s insistence that the relationship was consensual, prosecutors believe it constituted rape and sexual assault due to the age difference.
