Nine newborns die at Novokuznetsk hospital, arrests made in Russia
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Two senior doctors at a hospital in southern Russia have been arrested on suspicion of negligence and causing death through negligence after nine newborn babies died in a few days. The infants, born between December and January, passed away during Russia’s New Year holiday. The hospital in Novokuznetsk had a poor reputation with reports of medical malpractice, lack of medicine, and unverified incidents of harm to patients. The fatalities have sparked shock and anger in Russia, raising concerns about the country’s healthcare system and its impact on the birth rate, a priority for President Vladimir Putin.
