Kurdish SDF Withdraws from Aleppo, Ceasefire Announced

The last Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters evacuated from Aleppo following a ceasefire agreement, marking their departure from areas held since 2011. This withdrawal, facilitated by international mediation, allowed civilians and fighters to leave the Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maksoud neighborhoods for northeastern Syria. Violence escalated as the Syrian army prepared to clear remaining Kurdish forces, amid accusations of indiscriminate bombings and a complex political landscape resisting Kurdish integration into the new government. Over 140,000 people have been displaced due to the fighting, which has also disrupted key transport routes and closed Aleppo’s international airport.
