Syria declares ceasefire in Aleppo after SDF clashes

The Syrian Defense Ministry announced a ceasefire in Aleppo, effective from 3:00 a.m. on Friday, to avoid further military escalation in the Sheikh Maqsoud, Alashrafieh, and Bani Zeid neighborhoods. Armed groups were given until 9:00 a.m. to leave, with the Syrian Arab Army offering safe escort for departing militants, limited to personal light weapons. The ceasefire follows intense fighting that displaced over 140,000 people and drew US calls for de-escalation amid ongoing tensions between Syrian government forces and Kurdish groups. Negotiations for Kurdish withdrawal are underway, but both sides accuse each other of hindering progress toward integration.
