Israeli Foreign Minister Visits Somaliland Following Recognition

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar visited Somaliland following Israel’s recognition of the region as an independent state, a move that has faced significant backlash, particularly from Arab nations and Somalia. Saar emphasized that the diplomatic relations are not aimed against anyone and highlighted the invitation for Somaliland’s president, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi, to visit Israel. Abdilahi described the visit as a crucial step towards a strategic partnership, despite Somalia’s firm rejection of Israel’s recognition. Somaliland, which declared independence in 1991, remains unrecognized internationally, and the visit is seen as an attempt to strengthen Israeli influence in the region.
