Tragic Migrant Accident in Ethiopia
At least 22 migrants died and 65 were injured when a lorry overturned in Ethiopia’s Afar region while transporting about 85 Ethiopian migrants along a perilous route to Yemen, typically leading to Gulf states. Authorities reported that 30 of the injured are in critical condition, and the Afar government is undertaking rescue operations while warning against the dangers of human trafficking. The International Organization for Migration notes that over 60,000 migrants reached Yemen in 2024, despite the risks involved in this journey.
