Xi Jinping States Reunification with Taiwan is Inevitable

Taiwan’s Lai pledges to defend national sovereignty after Beijing holds live-fire drills around island.

Chinese President Xi Jinping declared the “unstoppable” goal of reunifying Taiwan with China, following large-scale military drills simulating a blockade around the island. In response, Taiwanese President William Lai emphasized the importance of defending national sovereignty and strengthening defenses against China’s expansionist ambitions. The U.S. recently approved a significant arms package to Taiwan, while public sentiment in Taiwan largely favors maintaining the current status quo. Xi also highlighted China’s advancements in innovation and technology during his New Year’s address.
