National Guard sent to New Orleans after terror attack anniversary.

President Trump has authorized a National Guard deployment in New Orleans to provide heavy security for New Year’s celebrations following a terror attack last year. The deployment will begin Tuesday and last through at least February. The Guard will assist local law enforcement with road closures and patrols, focusing on the French Quarter and other event locations. The Guard will not be involved in immigration enforcement. The deployment comes after an attack on Bourbon Street killed 14 people on Jan. 1. The city will honor the victims with a period of mourning and by ringing bells 14 times at 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 4. Over 800 law enforcement officials will be deployed in New Orleans, with the support of Mayor LaToya Cantrell. The increased security follows an attack by an individual who drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street, claiming to support the Islamic State.
