PSAC Criticizes PCO for Lack of Transparency on Layoffs
Canada’s largest public-sector union, PSAC, has condemned the Privy Council Office (PCO) for its “hypocritical” refusal to disclose how many of its employees received layoff notices amid planned cuts. PCO, which oversees the federal public service, notified employees of potential job losses as part of a broader initiative to reduce the public workforce by 40,000 by 2028-2029. While PCO has not revealed the number of affected employees, estimates suggest approximately 230 of its 1,208 staff received adjustment letters. Unions are increasingly concerned about the implications of these layoffs on public services and demand greater transparency regarding the cuts.
