Palestinian Descendant Becomes President of Honduras

Honduras’ electoral authorities have declared Nasry Asfura, a right-wing candidate supported by former US President Donald Trump, the winner of the presidential election, with his term set to begin on January 27, 2026. Asfura, the son of Palestinian immigrants, defeated Salvador Nasralla, who has demanded a recount over alleged voting irregularities. Trump praised Asfura as a key ally against “communist drug traffickers” in the region. Honduras remains plagued by violence linked to gangs and organized crime.
