Lieutenant General Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, Chief of Staff of the Libyan army, was killed in a plane crash in Turkiye while returning from an official visit. The private jet lost contact shortly after requesting an emergency landing due to an electrical failure, resulting in the deaths of four senior military officials and three crew members. Al-Haddad was a unifying figure in Libya’s fractured military landscape, having worked to consolidate rival factions since 2020. His death has prompted three days of national mourning in Libya, highlighting his significance across political divides.
