American consumers in December remained pessimistic about the economy, with The Conference Board reporting a drop in the consumer confidence index to 89.1 from November. Concerns about prices, inflation, and tariffs were prominent in consumer responses. Job market perceptions also decreased, with fewer consumers seeing jobs as “plentiful.” Despite the economic growth, consumer sentiment continued to decline, with spending remaining steady. The labor market showed mixed results, with job creation slowing down and the unemployment rate rising.
