A significant prisoner swap deal in Yemen will see nearly 3,000 detainees released following talks in Oman.
Yemen’s government and the Houthi group have agreed to exchange 1,700 Houthi prisoners for 1,200 government detainees, including seven Saudis and 23 Sudanese. UN envoy Hans Grundberg hailed the agreement as a crucial step towards alleviating the suffering of detainees. The ongoing conflict, which has lasted since 2014, has resulted in a humanitarian crisis affecting millions. Effective implementation of the deal requires continued cooperation and regional support.
