NEW YORK —
An on-duty Customs and Border Protection officer discharged his weapon multiple times on a freeway near John F. Kennedy International Airport following an altercation with another driver over a minor traffic accident. The other driver fled the scene, and while it remains unclear if any shots struck him, the officer was unharmed. The incident, which occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on the Van Wyck Expressway, is under investigation with no arrests made. Traffic delays were reported during the morning commute but eased later on.
