Funeral directors could face jail after bodies found in mortuary

Two funeral directors, Richard Elkin and Hayley Bell, were convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court for preventing the lawful burial of an 87-year-old man and committing fraud while operating Elkin and Bell Funerals in Gosport, Hampshire. Their offenses included keeping decomposing bodies in unsuitable conditions and misleading families regarding cremation arrangements. Elkin also faced charges for forgery and illegal possession of pepper spray. They await sentencing on February 19, with the possibility of jail time.
