Air Canada prevails in lawsuit over ,000 luggage compensation
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Air Canada has overturned a Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) ruling requiring it to pay passenger Alaa Tannous $2,079 for delayed baggage due to a court decision by Federal Justice Michael Manson, who deemed the CTA’s compensation order unreasonable. The case, stemming from a 2022 flight delay, will be reassessed by a new CTA officer, as Air Canada contested the claim, arguing that included post-delivery purchases were excessive and not causally linked to the delay. Tannous initially submitted $3,435 in receipts, but the judge noted that only $1,691.98 was for purchases made before the baggage’s arrival. Air Canada sought clarification on reasonable compensation expenses, and Tannous remarked that he felt the original CTA decision was fair.
