A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Royal Caribbean after Michael Virgil, a 35-year-old cruise passenger, died on board their ship, Navigator of the Seas, following the consumption of 33 alcoholic drinks. Virgil’s family alleges that crew members restrained him during an altercation, leading to mechanical asphyxiation, while he had a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit. After his death, the family claims the crew continued the cruise for days with Virgil’s body in a morgue refrigerator. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide due to a combination of factors, including ethanol intoxication and body compression.
