Bolivian authorities have arrested former President Luis Arce on charges of financial misconduct during his time as economy minister under Evo Morales. Arce is accused of embezzling $700m from a fund meant for Indigenous and peasant farmers. His arrest is part of the new government’s anti-corruption efforts, but his allies claim it is politically motivated. Arce remains in custody pending trial, facing a possible six-year jail sentence.
