The US has sanctioned a network recruiting former Colombian soldiers to train fighters for Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid the ongoing civil war. The US Treasury’s OFAC identified eight entities and individuals, noting that hundreds of Colombian mercenaries have participated in the conflict since 2024. The RSF, accused of committing atrocities against civilians, has seized significant territory, including Sudan’s largest oil field. Recent attacks in South Kordofan resulted in numerous civilian casualties, prompting calls for a ceasefire.
