The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, condemned a drone attack in Sudan’s Kalogi that killed 114 people, including 63 children, as “senseless.” The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were accused of the attack during the ongoing civil war, which began in April 2023 between the RSF and the army. Amid the violence, the RSF claimed control of the Heglig oil field, crucial for both Sudan and South Sudan’s economies. The WHO called for an end to hostilities and increased humanitarian aid access.
