EU Considered to Modify 2035 Ban on Gasoline Cars
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Friday, six EU countries, including Bulgaria, Hungary, and Poland, urged the European Commission to relax its 2035 ban on selling internal combustion engine cars, seeking to allow hybrids and alternative technologies to reduce emissions. This reconsideration follows a March regulation mandating zero emissions for new vehicles, amidst declining demand for battery electric vehicles. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also supports exceptions for certain combustion vehicles, while the Commission plans to address these concerns in a meeting on December 10. Advances in renewable fuels, like BMW’s HVO 100 and Porsche’s synthetic fuel, may play a significant role in future regulations.
