Alberta Lawyers Required to Complete Indigenous Education Course
New Legislation May Alter Training Requirements
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Five years ago, Alberta’s Law Society mandated Indigenous cultural competency training for all active lawyers, aligning with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action. This training, called “The Path,” has been completed by most lawyers since its introduction in 2021. The bill enforces compliance with the Regulated Professions Neutrality Act, restricting mandatory education on cultural competency and related topics.
