Boxer Semisi Kalu Drowns While Rescuing Sons in Tonga

A tragic incident occurred when Tongan-born New Zealand heavyweight boxer Semisi Kalu died while rescuing his sons during a swimming outing in Tonga. Kalu, who competed for Tonga at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and ran a drainlaying business in Auckland, was visiting family with his wife and three sons. On November 19, two of his sons encountered difficulties at the beach, prompting Kalu to act heroically. His death has been described as an absolute tragedy by former Olympic champion Paea Wolfgramm, Kalu’s wife’s uncle.
