Libyan War Crimes Suspect in Custody, Says ICC

Khaled Mohamed Ali El Hishri allegedly committed serious crimes at Libya’s Mitiga Prison from 2015 to 2020, The Hague-based ICC says.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has taken Khaled Mohamed Ali El Hishri into custody for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes in Libya from 2015 to 2020, following his surrender by German authorities. El Hishri, a senior Mitiga Prison official, is suspected of overseeing serious offenses, including murder and torture. Despite Libya not being a party to the Rome Statute, it has accepted the ICC’s jurisdiction until 2027. The ICC continues to pursue additional arrest warrants related to the same case.
