Work-related migration to wealthy countries decreased by over 20% in 2024, attributed to tightened visa policies in nations like the UK and Australia and a weakening global economy. The OECD reported a drop to approximately 934,000 permanent work admissions, with a notable decline in the EU and a 40% fall in UK net migration. While labor and student migration fell, humanitarian migration surged, keeping total permanent migration slightly below previous peaks. Despite stricter immigration policies, the overall employment rate among migrants remains robust, particularly in the UK.
