The ban on food stamps for individuals with drug-related felony convictions perpetuates a cycle of poverty and crime by hindering their ability to reintegrate into society post-release. This policy disproportionately affects communities of color, further perpetuating racial inequalities within the criminal justice system. By denying access to crucial resources, such as food assistance, this double punishment only serves to increase recidivism rates and perpetuate systemic racism.
