On Wednesday, Kan Shui-ying discovered a severe fire at Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district, leading to at least 83 fatalities and many others missing in the city’s deadliest blaze in 70 years. Investigators are examining bamboo scaffolding and mesh netting used during renovations, with three contractors arrested for manslaughter due to potential safety violations. Hong Kong’s leader announced the fire is under control and discussions on replacing bamboo scaffolding with metal are underway.
